On the afternoon of July 18, officers with Secaucus Police Department arrived at Hudson Regional Hospital, less than five miles west of Manhattan, after authorities received a phone call that a bomb was in the hospital. When officers swept the hospital, bomb-detecting dogs "gave a positive indication" on a closet in an office, police said in a news release. Police entered the closet and found "a large cache of rifles, shotguns and handguns, along with assorted ammunition for the firearms." Police said 11 handguns, 27 rifles/shotguns and a semi-automatic rifle with high-capacity magazine, later determined to be an assault rifle, were recovered. An additional 14 rounds of high-capacity handgun magazines were discovered. Authorities said 46-year-old Reuven Alonalayoff was arrested Sunday at Newark Liberty International Airport with assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Alonalayoff, who police said was the marketing director of the hospital, was charged with possession of an assault firearm and two counts of possession of a high-capacity magazine. Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said he was thankful the situation "was resolved without anyone being harmed." "The unsecured storage of a large cache of weaponry, especially in this location, certainly creates a risk to public safety," Miller said. Authorities did not disclose how Alonalayoff got the weapons or how he got them into the closet. Hudson Regional Hospital didn't immediately respond to questions from USA TODAY about Alonalayoff's job status. New Jersey hospital worker was taken into custody after police claimed they found multiple guns – which included an assault weapon and ammunition in the hospital as they responded to the threat of a bomb.

On July 18, officers of the Secaucus Police Department arrived at Hudson Regional Hospital, less than five miles to the west of Manhattan following an emergency call that indicated an explosive was found inside the hospital.

As officers cleaned the hospital, the bomb-deteving dogs “gave an indication of a bomb” of a closet inside an office, the police stated in a press release. Police went into the closet and discovered “a vast collection of shotguns, rifles, and handguns as well as different ammunition for the firearms.”

Police reported that the gun was recovered along with 27 shotguns and rifles as well as semi-automatic rifles with high capacity magazine, later found as being an assault rifle were found. Another 14 rounds of handguns with high capacity magazines were also found.

Authorities say 46-year-old Reuven Alonalayoff, 46, was arrested on the weekend in the Newark Liberty International Airport with assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Alonalayoff was arrested by police who said he was the director of marketing for the facility was arrested with the possession of an assault weapon and two counts of possessing an extremely large capacity magazine.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said he was happy that the incident “was solved without anyone being hurt.”

“The insecure storage of a huge arsenal of weapons, particularly in this area, definitely poses a threat to public security,” Miller said.

Authorities were not able to reveal the manner in which Alonalayoff acquired the weapons, or how they got into his storage area.

Hudson Regional Hospital didn’t immediately respond to inquiries from USA Today about Alonalayoff’s employment situation.
